SUN PROTECTION FOR THE FACE

We often think about protecting our arms, legs and body in the Summer but it’s easy to ignore sun protection for the face, which is exposed to the sun all year round.   In fact, although we think about sunbathing being the main cause of skin damage, 80% of our exposure to the sun is during our normal daily activity.  That’s a lot of time to ignore.

5 tips for sun protection for the face:

1.  The number one tip for sun protection for the face – Wear sun cream EVERY day.

Many moisturisers and foundations now include a sun protector.   Avon does a wide range of anti-ageing day creams with SPF25.  However, for extra protection do consider a suncream on top of this.  Their new Sun protector has an SPF50 and comes in a lovely matte finish.  It is available plain or tinted if you are looking for a little coverage too.  Remember to reapply regularly especially if you are out in the sun for a long while or in and out of the water.

This particular protector is special in that it not only works to protect your skin, but it also works to repair it as well. Avon say it is “formulated to help repair 50% of skin cell damage within 24 hours (Measured in reconstructed skin after UVB exposure equal to approximately 10 minutes of summertime sunlight at 40 degrees) for a flawless, more even skin tone and visibly healthy-looking skin

2.  Try and avoid the hottest part of the day.

Sunbathing really is not a good look these days.  Exposure to the sun is not only a major factor in skin cancer, but it is also the number one cause of premature ageing.  Certainly, sitting out facing it won’t help at all.  For more information on why our skin ages and what we can do to slow down or even reverse the signs see this article of mine.

3. Wear a hat.

Wearing a hat, the wider the brim the better can all help when looking at sun protection for the face.  Even driving can be really deceiving.  The sun shining through the window can really burn the side of your face.

4.  Don’t forget the lips.

It is easy to miss out our lips. They can swell if they get sunburnt and certainly will age as more lip lines appear.  Make you sure you protect them with a lip balm and reapply it regularly.  Avon does an SPF30 balm that is suitable for delicate areas like the lips, nose and ears.  They also do a range of lip glosses and lipsticks with an SPF15 and some infused with moisturising Jojoba oil to really help bring that moisture back into those lips.

5. Sun protection for the face not forgetting the eyes.

Sun protection for the face means protecting one of our most precious gifts – that of sight.  Protecting our eyes from the sun can be as simple as wearing good quality sunglasses.  Not only will it protect the delicate area around the eye from burning, when we squint it causes lines to develop which will in time develop into wrinkles!   So wearing sunglasses will help with your anti ageing routine in more ways than one.
