7 Tips How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Wearing a lovely new or favourite perfume can make you feel amazing.  The confidence it can give when you receive compliments is incredible.  However, have you ever really considered how you store it, where you apply it or even how you apply it?   Here are some tips on how to make the perfume you love last longer.

Where you store it

Ok, now ladies I know we are drawn to the bottle.  The shape, the colour, the feel, how fabulous it looks on the dressing table or in your newly refurbished bathroom, however, some tips to bear in mind.

Avoid Direct Sunlight– This causes more damage than pretty much anything.
Ideally, keep it in a drawer or in a wardrobe.  I know, I know we like to have it on show! However, if you can’t resist it, then be aware that frosted and darker bottles will protect it more than clear glass ones so be particularly careful with these.    Take a look at the Far Away range of frosted bottles – Avon’s number one perfume.

Darker bottles - how to make your perfume last longer

Store with the lid on tight and replace the cap as soon as possible after spraying so it doesn’t evaporate. Exposure to oxygen can significantly break down your fragrance.  If you like to keep spraying regularly then invest in a travel size secure bottle so at least air isn’t getting exposed to your main bottle all the time.   Avon does a great range of purse sprays, which are fantastic if you want to try a new fragrance but also great for after the gym or topping up after work before you go out.    Not everything is better large, so unless you are going to use your perfume quickly, chose a smaller bottle and buy more frequently

Avoid extreme heat and cold. Avoid areas with high humidity like the bathroom or next to radiators as this can break down the perfume. Some people I know like to store their perfume in the fridge, but be careful that the fragrance doesn’t transfer to certain foods e.g. cheese

Where you spray it

This subject is often debated. As a child, I was always told to target the pulse points of my neck and wrist but there are other places that may be better depending on the environment and even what you are wearing

Look for areas exposed.   Wrists, the neck and inner elbows are great but only if on show. No point covering them up with clothes.  Other good points to target are the back of your knees and ankles.

The perfume will last longer on moisturised skin so using an unfragranced moisturiser first can extend its scent.

If it is particularly hot weather be careful as sweat can break down your perfume faster. So in these cases spraying it onto your hairbrush before running it through your hair, or even your clothes e.g. on a scarf will help it last longer.

How you spray it

Again as a child, it was a spray on your wrist, pat your neck, then rub your wrists together!  This a definite no, no!

Simply spray and then leave the spray to sink in. No rubbing or you crush the scent.

Don’t shake. What is it with the shake? I have seen women shake their perfume in the ladies like it was their oil infused micellar water for cleansing!  Perfume doesn’t need a shake and in fact, doing so spoils it.

A further tip on how to make your perfume last longer is to look for complementary products.

Avon is the number 1 Fragrance brand in the UK.  They have a huge range of quality perfumes, that both look and smell amazing with a price to match.  Many come in gift sets or with complementary products e.g. body lotions, body sprays, shower gels etc to extend the fragrance from top to toe.    Have you seen the New fragrance Avon Eve Truth, just launched?

It comes with a purse spray and body lotion to extend the fragrance, plus 5 other free gifts

I hope this has helped give you a few ideas on how to make your perfume last longer.  Perfume is an amazing thing to boost your self-confidence and express your individuality.  I would love to hear which one is your favourite.
